The Cultural Association of Angeliana was founded in the early 1960s. Its goal is not only to promote the morals and customs of our place, but also to raise awareness and actively move the entire local community to participate in actions that upgrade culture at all levels: environment, art, health, sports, nutrition, etc.
In this context, a short film was created starring the inhabitants of the village,full of the beauties and tradition of the place, entitled: “From Angeliana”, directed by Elvina Botonaki. Two more TV shows highlighted our place. The first with Anastasia Bitzileou in the show “Come Close” and the second with Vasilis Patsis in “You go by cooking”. Near them and with the participation of fellow villagers, we successfully organized the first food festival, in which recipes from the wider area of Mylopotamos were presented.
At the same time, informational workshops open to the public were organized from time to time, such as:
- “The Limits to Child Omnipotence” with the psychologist-psychotherapist Aria Barkatsa.
- The first aid and CPR seminar from the EKAB of Heraklion
- The action of preventive medicine with the visit of the mobile mastography unit.
- The activity of the club does not stop here since it organizes excursions throughout Crete, strengthening by that the communication of all residents.
Entertainment also through theatrical performances and concerts for both our young and older villagers is another interest of the club. - Thus, with the guidance of directors PopiTsibiskaki and Giorgos Kalogerakis, the custom of “Klidonas” was represented.
- An institution with particular success has now become the annual dance of the club in early August, which gathers crowds of people from the surrounding villages.
- The delivery of food and basic necessities to the refugees of Mytilene, the earthquake victims of Arkalochori and the flood victims of Thessaly underlines the sensitivity of the association on social issues and the solidarity for its fellow human beings.
- And all this in a civilized and clean environment that we achieve with frequent tree plantings and voluntary actions to clean the village, thus cultivating cooperation and educating the youngest in this direction.
- We cooperate with all the sectors of our village, with the neighboring cultural associations in joint actions but also with structures and services of the Municipality and the Region of Crete.
For all of the above, we warmly thank all the villagers for their valuable help, all the members and friends who embrace and support in every way the activities and more the vision of the cultural association of Aggeliana.
